Ha Giang Loop Itinerary – 4 Days 3 Nights ( Group tour )
Duration
Group size
The Ha Giang Loop is the journey travellers talk about long after the rest of Vietnam has blurred together: a circuit of mountain roads in Vietnam’s far north, climbing through the Quan Ba Heaven Gate, the pine forests of Yen Minh and the stone old town of Dong Van, before crossing the Ma Pi Leng Pass — a road cut into a cliff face high above the jade-green Nho Que River. It is remote, dramatic and unlike anywhere else in Southeast Asia.
Vega Travel runs the loop as it should be run: in small groups and private departures, with return transport from Hanoi included, and with a choice most operators cannot offer. Ride with an experienced easy rider and watch the mountains instead of the road. Ride the bike yourself on a guided departure, if your licence allows it. Or skip the motorbike entirely and travel by private car or open-top jeep — the same passes, the same viewpoints, in complete comfort. Tours run from 2 to 4 days, private or in a group, so the loop fits both a long weekend and a slower journey through the north.
Every departure is operated by Vega Travel, a Hanoi-based company working since 2001 and holding International Tour Operator Licence 0324/2004/TCDL-GP-LHQT. We handle the logistics travellers should not have to think about — the Hanoi transfers, the border-area permit for Dong Van and Meo Vac, the accommodation, the drivers who know these bends by heart — so that what you remember is the road itself.
Choose your format below, or talk to us first: if you tell us your licence situation, group size and dates, we will tell you honestly which version of the loop suits you.

Short on time or combining regions? The Halong Bay on Vega Cruise & Ha Giang Loop 4 Days package pairs the loop with a Ha Long Bay cruise in one booking.
Easy rider — for most travellers. Sit behind an experienced local driver and give the scenery your full attention. No licence needed, no fatigue, hands free for the camera. This is the standard format on our group tours and the one we recommend to first-time visitors.
Self-ride — for licensed, experienced riders. Ride your own bike within a guided departure, with the route, support and logistics covered. Vietnam only recognises the 1968-convention international driving permit with a motorcycle category — read our IDP guide for the Ha Giang Loop before choosing this option, and we will verify your documents at booking.
Private car or jeep — for families and non-riders. The complete loop with a driver and no motorbike: full comfort by car, or the open-air version by jeep that almost no other operator offers. Ideal for families, older travellers and anyone travelling in the cold season.
Not sure? Our comparison guide walks through cost, comfort and licence rules for each: Easy Rider vs Self-Drive vs Private Car: How to Do the Ha Giang Loop.
Do I need a driving licence to do the Ha Giang Loop?
Only if you ride the motorbike yourself. Self-riders need a full motorcycle licence from home plus an international driving permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention, with the motorcycle category. Easy rider passengers and car/jeep passengers need no licence at all — your driver is the licensed one.
How many days do I need for the Ha Giang Loop?
Three days covers the complete classic loop. Four days adds a slower pace, more time in Dong Van and Meo Vac, and is kinder for self-riders. Two days is possible on a private departure if you are short on time, focusing on the Quan Ba–Yen Minh–Dong Van highlights.
Is transport from Hanoi included?
Yes. Vega Ha Giang Loop tours include return transport between Hanoi and Ha Giang City; pick-up details are confirmed when you book.
When is the best time to do the Ha Giang Loop?
The most popular windows are September–November (harvest season, buckwheat flowers, drier roads) and March–May (spring flowers, clear views). The loop runs year-round; December–February is cold in the mountains and June–August brings the heaviest rain.
Can I do the Ha Giang Loop without riding a motorbike?
Yes. Our private car and jeep departures run the same loop — same passes, towns and viewpoints — with a driver throughout. It is the format we recommend for families, older travellers and anyone who prefers not to be on a motorbike.
What is included in the tour price?
Return Hanoi–Ha Giang transport, your vehicle and driver (or easy rider), accommodation, meals as stated in the itinerary, entrance fees and the border-area permit. Each tour page lists its inclusions and exclusions in full.
Is the Ha Giang Loop safe for beginners?
As a passenger, yes — the easy rider format is designed for people who have never ridden. As a self-rider, the loop is not a beginner route: steep passes and long riding days demand real experience, and we will say so if we think self-riding is not right for you.
How big are the groups?
Group departures are kept small so the experience stays personal, and private tours run for your party only.
